Introduction and Andante was composed in 2010 by Peter R. Hallock for Page Smith and Naomi Kato on the occasion of their performance of Phoenix (1975) with the Rikkyo University Choir, under the baton of Scott Shaw, Director of Sacred Music. The composer intended the work to serve as an encore featuring Phoenix violoncello and harp soloists; he subsequently revised the work in September 2013.
