An anthem for SATB mixed voices, congregation, trumpet, drum, tambourine, and cymbals
Music directors should use instruments available to them—be it clapping to cover the drum or tambourine parts, or a different instrument in place of the trumpet part. So that language referencing God might be more inclusive, the editor has revised text as originally adapted and set by Hallock, using A Liturgical Psalter (Anglican Church of Canada, 2016) as a framework.
The congregation part for this work is extensive—perhaps making it unapproachable to the average congregation. It may be best to have the assembly sing only the first phrase and repeated “Praise the Lord” phrases near the end. However extensive a role the congregation takes, printed music should appear in the order of service and the congregation offered an opportunity to practice before the service. Note that lower men’s voices always double the congregation part throughout; sometimes the lower women’s voices double the congregation part.
